How to Not Gain Weight During the Holidays

I have been thinking about how to not gain weight whilst I am on holiday. I am going away for the new year and I want to prevent myself from putting on weight.

Well, I think I have found the perfect way to combat weight gain.

Apparently, according to Doctor David Friedman, the best way to combat weight gain is to drink plenty of water over the holidays especially when drinking alcohol. Drinking water can help with dehydration. During the holidays, many people will drink alcohol, which can dehydrate you without you realizing it. So, we should all drink water before and after alcohol is consumed.

Dr. David Friedman states in his article Skinny on Alcohol on his health blog:

"For every alcoholic beverage, you consume, drink a glass of water. This will keep you from getting dehydrated and the dilution creates less strain on the liver and kidneys."

Doctor David Friedman also states:

"Eating something with fiber, protein, and a little bit of healthy fat will control blood-sugar levels and curb those comfort food cravings. Eat foods like oatmeal, apple slices with almond butter, Greek yogurt with berries, hard-boiled eggs or have a protein shake. These food choices stay in the stomach longer and you’ll be less likely to crave food when you drink."


So you should start drinking water and eat better food choices before you drink alcohol. If you thought it would help to stop you from gaining weight would you make it a plan to drink more water and eat healthily?

It's a good idea and I plan to do this often by drinking a glass of water before every meal and in between a glass of red or white wine.

Doctor David Friedman states:

"Moderation means drink 1-2 alcoholic beverages two times per week. Have a few drinks on Friday and Saturday and let your liver rest during the weekdays."

I do this all the time. I never drink every day when I am at home but on holiday it's much harder to not have a drink. Perhaps, drinking less alcohol one night but drink more water instead. This may work too.
